The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Abubakar Atiku Abubakar’s decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and join the APC, calling it a significant blow to his father, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s, political credibility.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Lagos APC Spokesman Seye Oladejo remarked, “You Can’t Trust Atiku More Than His Son,” in response to the younger Atiku’s reported defection. Oladejo highlighted the “political earthquake” resulting from Abubakar’s choice to abandon what he termed the “pretentious ADC contraption” and ally with the APC.
“This singular act has spoken volumes more than any press conference could,” he stated. He argued that if Atiku’s own son doubts his father’s political judgment, it raises questions about his credibility on a national level.
Oladejo went on to point out Atiku Abubakar’s history of ideological inconsistency and described his political journey as “a restless odyssey defined by serial defections and an obsession with the Presidency.” He cited Atiku’s shifting party affiliations—from the PDP to the AC and back to the PDP, and now to the ADC—as evidence of a lack of genuine political conviction.
He suggested that the younger Atiku’s defection to the APC was more than a personal choice; it represented a generational rejection of “recycled politics” and a lack of leadership integrity. This move, he said, signifies an endorsement of the APC’s governance record and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Oladejo emphasized that a leader who cannot inspire loyalty among their immediate circle cannot expect to command confidence nationally. He welcomed Abubakar Atiku Abubakar to the APC and urged Nigerians to recognize the shifting political landscape.
“The era of political tourism and moral inconsistency is struggling for relevance,” he concluded. “If Atiku’s son has moved on, it’s about time that Nigeria did too.”
