The Minister of Defence has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security around schools nationwide, stressing that a safe learning environment is a constitutional and moral necessity. He noted that education cannot flourish where students and teachers are exposed to threats, fear, or violence.
The minister made the assurance while receiving recognition from a national parents’ body for efforts linked to the protection of educational institutions. He emphasised that safeguarding schools requires coordinated action among government authorities, security agencies, parents, teachers, and host communities.
According to him, security measures around schools are not merely operational decisions but policy choices rooted in the state’s obligation to protect life, dignity, and access to education. He added that inclusive security planning would remain central to government strategy, particularly in vulnerable areas.
The minister described parents and teachers as critical partners in nation-building, observing that discipline, education, and safety are intertwined. He warned that neglecting school security creates long-term social risks that undermine national stability and development.
Education stakeholders at the event commended the government’s approach, noting that enhanced security presence and preventive measures have improved confidence among parents and encouraged school attendance in previously threatened locations.
The Ministry of Defence reiterated its readiness to continue collaborating with education authorities and civil society to ensure that security policies evolve in response to emerging risks, with the overarching goal of protecting children and preserving the integrity of the education system.
