The Senator Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party (LP) has firmly rejected claims made by Barrister Julius Abure that he is still the party’s national chairman following the Supreme Court ruling on April 4, 2025. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also stated otherwise, leading to calls for Abure’s prosecution for alleged impersonation.

In a statement issued by the party’s Interim National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwochocha, the Usman-led interim executive called for swift action from the Prosecutor-General of the Federation regarding the allegations against Abure, which include impersonation and other offenses.

Usman stated:

“Labour Party is not for sale. Mr. Abure and his associates should seek legitimate means of livelihood, rather than attempting to commercialize political structures.”

The statement also criticized Abure’s actions regarding INEC’s refusal to upload candidates’ particulars for upcoming council polls in the Federal Capital Territory, positioning them as a series of over twenty lawsuits aimed at destabilizing the party’s leadership.

Nwochocha emphasized that Abure’s claims are both delusional and reflect a complete disregard for the legal rulings that have rendered his position invalid. The INEC’s refusal to provide access codes for candidate uploads was justified by these court decisions.

Highlighting the party’s resolve, Usman reaffirmed that the LP is committed to justice, equity, and good governance under the leadership of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti and Senator Nenadi Usman. He urged party members, especially youth and women, to remain resolute in their participation in the party’s ongoing activities and preparations for the 2027 elections.

This development signifies an escalating internal conflict within the Labour Party, raising concerns over its leadership stability and the potential implications for its future electoral strategies.
