Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric from Kaduna, has claimed that he has been marked for elimination by the United States, linking this allegation to Boko Haram’s activities in Nigeria. In a recent address, Gumi shared that he received a phone call from an unidentified official in Abuja, informing him that his name was on a list of individuals targeted following a U.S. military operation.
This revelation follows airstrikes conducted by the U.S. against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Sokoto State. Gumi used this platform to criticize the involvement of foreign military forces, arguing that these actions tend to worsen the security situation rather than improve it.
In his remarks, Gumi emphasized the need for northern leaders and clerics to speak out against what he termed false narratives, stating that foreign interventions often result in tragic civilian casualties and intensify existing tensions within communities.
His claims have reignited debates about the implications of foreign military actions in Nigeria, emphasizing the challenges the nation faces in addressing internal security issues without external interference.
