Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said he was chased out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by then-President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan.
Amaechi made the remark on Friday while appearing on The Morning Brief, a breakfast programme on Channels Television.
Amaechi said on Friday, during an appearance on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, that he was effectively pushed out of the PDP, alleging that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife took control of the political structure in Rivers State and forced him out. He added that he experienced a similar situation in the APC.
He stated that he faced injustice in both the PDP and APC, stressing that he would always speak out against wrongdoing. The former Rivers State governor exited the PDP in 2013 after being suspended over alleged anti-party activities, and later left the APC in 2025, citing concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
“I will not remain silent in the face of injustice. Whenever I speak up, efforts are made to sideline me,” Amaechi said.
The ADC chieftain also revealed that he would back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar if he emerges as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. However, he noted that Atiku should also take into account factors such as age and capacity, despite being qualified to run.
Amaechi further downplayed the importance of zoning, insisting that leadership should be based on competence rather than regional considerations.
“I don’t agree with north or south or any such divisions,” he said.
“What I believe is that the most qualified candidates should be allowed to govern and be elected.”
