A coalition of contractors, under the auspices of Imo State government contractors, have appealed to the Imo state government to pay them the money they are due.

The group, which was chaired by Mr. Great Nwoke, lamented that the Imo State government, had not paid for contract works that were completed, and materials that were supplied, between 2011 and 2015.

A statement by Mr Nwoke stated, “We have gathered here today to address a pressing matter regarding the non-payment of an aggregate sum of N15,989,213,218.00 (Fifteen Billion Nine Hundred and Eighty-Nine Million Two Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, Two Hundred And Eighteen Naira) owed to us for supplies made and contracts executed in Imo State between 2011 and 2015.”

Mr Nwoke also lamented that, the delay in payments of their wages has brought upon severe consequences, such as loss of lives, due to depression caused by the huge loans they had acquired to complete the project, and accumulated interest rates from the banks owed.

“We fear that if urgent action is not taken, more lives may be lost; we appeal to the Imo State government to settle our outstanding balance without further delay, please help us! save our souls, pay our wages” the group demanded.

The group also called for detailed investigations into their complaint and urged the Legislative Chamber to exercise its oversight functions to ensure that Imo State fulfils its contractual obligations.
