Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Egypt 4–2 on penalties to secure the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a tense third-place playoff at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.  The encounter ended goalless after regulation time, with the match decided from the spot.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero once again, saving penalties from Mohamed Salah and Oumar Marmoush to hand Nigeria victory in the shootout. Despite missing their opening kick, Nigeria recovered as successful conversions from Akor Adams, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman sealed the win and marked the country’s ninth third-place finish in AFCON history.

The Super Eagles had chances during open play, including a disallowed header by Adams and an offside goal by Lookman, but neither side could break the deadlock within 90 minutes. Egypt also struggled to create clear openings as both defences remained resolute.

Nigeria reached the playoff after losing their semi-final to hosts Morocco on penalties, while Egypt were edged out 1–0 by Senegal. The bronze-medal victory provided consolation for the Super Eagles and underlined their strong record in AFCON third-place matches.
