Nigeria’s Super Eagles have booked a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a commanding 2–0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech.

The win sets up a last-four encounter against hosts Morocco, who edged Cameroon in their quarter-final tie.

Nigeria went into the match in fine form after a 4–0 Round of 16 victory over Mozambique, arriving with the tournament’s highest goal tally. Algeria, by contrast, were unbeaten before the quarter-final and had conceded just one goal in four matches.

From kickoff, the Super Eagles asserted control, dominating possession and pressing aggressively. Victor Osimhen led the attack with pace and physical presence, supported by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, while Alex Iwobi dictated play from midfield.

Nigeria created several chances in the first half, with Akor Adams missing a clear opportunity and another effort cleared off the line. Algeria stayed compact defensively and relied on counter-attacks, with their goalkeeper producing key saves to keep the score level before the break.

The breakthrough came in the second half when Osimhen rose highest to head Nigeria into the lead. The Eagles maintained their momentum, and Akor Adams doubled the advantage after a well-worked move, finishing off an assist from Osimhen.

Wilfred Ndidi anchored the midfield effectively, breaking up Algerian advances, while Nigeria’s wide players stretched the defence to create space. Algeria made changes in an attempt to respond, but the Super Eagles remained composed and in control until the final whistle.

The result sends Nigeria into the AFCON 2025 semi-finals, where they will face Morocco in the hunt for a place in the final.
