National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has called on the Commission’s staff to intensify efforts to deliver the freest, fairest, and most credible elections in Nigeria’s history during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at INEC’s Induction and Strategic Retreat in Lagos for national commissioners, resident electoral commissioners, administrative secretaries, and directors, Prof. Amupitan reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to conduct an election that is transparent, technologically driven, and beyond reproach.
“The eyes of over 200 million Nigerians and the entire continent are upon us. The work ahead is demanding, the hours will be long, and the scrutiny will be intense,” he said. “The 2027 general election must be free and fair, and a watershed moment in Nigeria’s history. But we must aim even higher.”
Prof. Amupitan emphasized that INEC should build an institution recognised across Africa and globally. “Let it be that under our watch, INEC becomes the best election management body in Africa—a beacon of integrity, a model of technological efficiency, and a fortress of democratic values,” he said.
He added that INEC’s success in 2027 should set a continental standard, proving that the Commission can deliver a world-class, technology-driven, and transparent election that is beyond reproach.
