Oyo State’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is requesting that Governor Seyi Makinde provide an account of the N50 billion Relief Fund that was allegedly received from President Bola Tinubu following the Bodija GRA explosion in January 2024.

This request follows allegations made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who stated that Makinde received the funds to support victims but failed to acknowledge or utilize the money appropriately. Fayose claimed that the funds were diverted for political purposes, including Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition. He later released documents that he says prove that Makinde received the funds.

Governor Makinde’s aide, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, has refuted these claims, stating that the Federal Government released N30 billion, not N50 billion, and that the remaining N20 billion was withheld after Makinde refused to pay certain inducements. Olanrewaju also stated that the N4.5 billion disbursed represents 15% of the total funds which was used to support victims.
