Kano Governor Urges Calm After Deaths of Two Lawmakers in One Day

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has expressed profound shock and sadness over the sudden deaths of two serving members of the State House of Assembly on December 24, 2025. The legislators, Hon. Sarki Aliyu and Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, passed away within hours of each other, prompting widespread grief across the state.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Governor Yusuf described this incident as a “dark and heartbreaking moment” in Kano’s history. He emphasized that the loss of two vibrant lawmakers has left the government and the citizens in collective mourning.

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families, the leadership of the assembly, and the constituents of the Kano Municipal and Ungoggo Local Government Areas. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and strength for their families and the people of Kano to cope with this monumental loss.

Governor Yusuf called upon residents to remain calm, united, and prayerful, framing this tragedy as a test of faith and resilience for the community.

Hon. Sa’adu has already been buried at Ungoggo cemetery, while the funeral rites for Hon. Aliyu were scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. at the Emir’s Palace Mosque.
