The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has summoned business magnate Aliko Dangote to appear before its investigation panel in Abuja on Monday following a petition he submitted.
Dangote’s petition targets Ahmed Farouk, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), over alleged corruption. According to sources, the ICPC has formed a specialized panel to thoroughly examine the claims and ensure the investigation is handled with diligence.
Dangote is expected to either appear in person or send his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, SAN, along with all relevant evidence, once the investigation formally begins. The petition alleges that Farouk engaged in corrupt practices, including spending millions of dollars on the overseas education of his four children in Switzerland. Additionally, Dangote accused Farouk of undermining domestic refining by colluding with international traders and oil importers through the issuance of import licenses.
The ICPC has requested that Dangote provide all supporting documents, and emphasized that the investigation will be fair and impartial. Farouk resigned from his position, but the commission affirmed that his resignation does not halt the probe.
According to the petition, the alleged spending by Farouk exceeds lawful means of income, amounting to over seven million dollars. Dangote has called for the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Farouk for reportedly living beyond his means as a public servant.
The commission’s spokesperson, John Okor Odey, confirmed receipt of the petition on December 16, 2025, and stated that the process will follow legal procedures to ensure accountability and transparency.
