In a significant political shift, Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly for the Labour Party, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This announcement was made during a notable event at Merit House in Abuja, attended by party leaders and supporters.

Senator Kingibe cited the ADC’s growing strength and visionary outlook as key motivations for her decision. She expressed her belief that ADC has the potential to redefine the political landscape in the FCT and beyond, asserting, “In the FCT, ADC is not just present; it is strong, vibrant, and growing.”

The defection has been enthusiastically welcomed by ADC leaders, including Youth Leader Comrade Balarabe Rufai, who described it as a monumental gain for the party. He emphasized the potential impact ahead of upcoming FCT council elections, stating that ADC is prepared to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alhaji Atiku Saleh, the Deputy Organising Secretary of ADC, presented Senator Kingibe with her party card, framing her entry as a pivotal moment in the party’s journey towards a new Nigeria.

Analysts view this defection as not only a strategic loss for the Labour Party but also a potential game-changer for the ADC as it gears up for the elections in 2027. The move is perceived as part of a larger realignment in Nigerian politics, where performance and grassroots engagement are becoming more significant than mere party loyalty.

With Senator Kingibe’s transition, the ADC is stepping into the political spotlight, signaling a new phase in the race towards the 2027 elections.
