Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has firmly rejected any suggestions regarding a vice-presidential candidacy with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the upcoming 2027 elections. He clarified that his ambition is to run for the presidency and that he will not serve as a running mate to anyone.

This statement follows comments made by media entrepreneur Dele Momodu, who indicated that if Peter Obi declines to run alongside Atiku, Amaechi could be a consideration. Momodu acknowledged Amaechi’s significant political contributions, suggesting that he was pivotal in supporting President Buhari’s rise to power.

In response, Amaechi, through his media aide David Iyofor, reiterated his commitment to seeking the presidency and distanced himself from any discussions about a vice-presidential bid. Iyofor emphasized that Amaechi believes it’s time for Southern Nigeria to produce the next president and is actively pursuing the presidential nomination from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Amaechi, who previously contested for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket in 2023 and later defected to the ADC, has made it clear that he is not interested in being anyone’s running mate. He urged politicians to refrain from associating his name with any vice-presidential discussions.
