The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has condemned an unauthorized order to close schools in the FCT, calling it an embarrassing breach of protocol. Speaking to the press after inspecting construction in Guzape, Wike expressed disbelief upon seeing the directive reported on television and confirmed with the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of the SSS that such a measure was not on the agenda.

“There is absolutely no threat that justifies shutting down schools,” Wike stated, emphasizing that he could not make such a decision without the President’s consent. He indicated that this premature action undermines public trust, especially considering that neighboring states have not closed schools in similar circumstances.

Following the uproar, a statement from the FCT administration clarified that no school closure directive had been issued and announced the suspension of the Education Secretary responsible for the memo. The administration vowed to hold those involved accountable to maintain the integrity of the education system in the capital.
