The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strong warning to the Federal Government over the escalating wave of terrorist attacks across the country, following the abduction of 25 female students in Kebbi State.

In a statement on Wednesday, NLC President Joe Ajaero condemned the kidnapping of students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, where gunmen invaded the school premises at about 4 a.m. The attack also led to the killing of a school vice principal.

Ajaero described the situation as a dangerous trend that could consume the country if not urgently addressed.

His warning comes amid multiple violent incidents across northern states. In Kwara State’s Eruku community, three persons were killed and about 35 others abducted on Wednesday. Barely a day later, suspected bandits kidnapped four rice farmers in Bokungi Village of Edu Local Government Area.

Ajaero expressed deep concern for families affected by these attacks and urged the Federal Government to intensify national security measures.

According to him, despite huge allocations to the security sector, Nigerians are not feeling safer.

He questioned why “bogus budgets” have failed to achieve meaningful results, insisting that the government must “reflect more deeply” on its strategy for securing the nation’s vast landmass and protecting citizens.

Ajaero further noted that the psychological impact of persistent insecurity is shrinking public confidence and destabilizing communities.
