Seven aspirants from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have jointly called for the immediate cancellation of the delegate congress held on June 21, 2025. They have labeled the process as fraudulent and a subversion of internal democracy, betraying the trust of grassroots party members in AMAC.

During a press conference, the aspirants—Hon. Yamawo Ishaku Tanko, Hon. Samuel Joseph Gainako, Hon. Abdulhakeem Babale Bello, Hon. Barr. Dauda Zhidu, Hon. Jennifer Ozioma Nnamudi, Hon. Saeed Alhassan Haske, and Hon. Barr. Sylvanus Tanko Piwoyi—collectively voiced their concerns.

Hon. Yamawo Ishaku Tanko, speaking on behalf of the group, stated that the delegate congress was a “scripted charade” designed to favor a select individual and undermine the party’s foundational structure in the FCT. He claimed that the committee sent by the APC’s national secretariat arrived with a predetermined list of preferred delegates, excluding genuine party members who have contributed to the APC’s growth in AMAC.

Tanko further alleged that the mission was to disadvantage other eligible contestants, paving the way for a predetermined outcome in the upcoming chairmanship primaries scheduled for June 25, 2015, in AMAC and other Area Councils. He also expressed shock at the discovery that many of those returned as delegates from the compromised congress were recently returned members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The aspirants questioned how individuals who recently rejoined the APC could dominate a critical process meant to reflect the will of committed APC members. They argued that this move insults the APC’s founding fathers and betrays principles of trust, sincerity, inclusion, internal democracy, and reward for loyalty and service.

The group expressed deep concern that elements within the APC’s national leadership have been compromised, undermining the party’s integrity in AMAC and the FCT. They believe this conduct contradicts President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and called for a fresh, free, fair, and credible delegate congress monitored by neutral officials.
