Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa has raised alarm over alleged insider collaboration with attackers responsible for recent killings in Benue State. Following a tragic incident where at least 100 people were killed in the Yelewata community of Guma Local Government Area, General Musa visited the area to assess the situation and commiserate with Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Musa expressed concerns that some individuals within the communities might be providing vital information to the attackers, complicating security efforts. He stated, “In my estimation, it is one killing too many… It indicates the presence of insiders compromising security efforts.”

The CDS emphasized the need for a collective approach to security, calling for local communities to participate in the fight against violence. He assured that the military would change its strategies to work more closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and local stakeholders to restore trust.

General Musa announced plans to strengthen border security coordination, highlighting that many attackers are believed to be crossing borders into Nigeria. He urged the youth not to lose hope and asserted that the country must not succumb to violence.

Local leaders, including the Chairman of Guma Local Government Area, Maurice Orwough, welcomed the CDS’s visit as a sign of government concern and support. The visit was seen as a crucial step in rebuilding trust between the federal government and the affected communities.
