The Presidency has responded to criticisms regarding President Bola Tinubu’s appointment record, asserting that recent appointments reflect a fair regional distribution. According to the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, the President has appointed 71 individuals from the North and 63 from the South to key federal positions.
Dare made this announcement via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, emphasizing that the President is committed to equity, competence, and national unity. He argued that criticisms focusing on tribal perspectives are premature, as Tinubu has completed less than two years in office and more appointments are forthcoming.
A detailed analysis of the 63 southern appointments reveals that the South-West has the highest representation with 26 appointees, followed by the South-South with 21, and the South-East with 16.
Dare cited Tinubu’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State as evidence of his inclusive approach, noting that his cabinet included individuals from diverse backgrounds. He maintained that a broader analysis would demonstrate that the Tinubu administration aligns with principles of federal character and national inclusion.
