Minister of the Federal Capital Territory,  Nyesom Wike has made it clear that he will not be deterred from undermining Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s re-election bid for 2027. During a visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area in Rivers State, Wike expressed frustration over Fubara’s failure to adhere to previous agreements, asserting that the mistakes of 2023 would not be repeated.

Wike emphasized his confidence as a minister and highlighted Rivers State’s past successes in challenging the federal government during his tenure as governor. He stated, “There is nothing like instruction as far as Rivers State is concerned. Nobody will call me,” dismissing any notion of outside influence over his actions.

He further criticized the current climate surrounding Fubara’s administration, questioning why there was a sudden outcry over mandates when the opposition has diminished. This renewed face-off between Wike and Fubara comes as Fubara prepares for his re-election campaign, indicating a deepening political rivalry within the state.

As the political tensions rise, Wike’s strong stance suggests that the road to the 2027 elections in Rivers State will be contentious.
