Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has asserted that no member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be used as a bargaining chip amid the party’s internal strife. Speaking in Abuja, Wike addressed concerned PDP stakeholders before a closed-door meeting following a court ruling that halted the party’s planned national convention.

He emphasized that attempts to hijack the PDP’s leadership through impunity would be met with resistance, stating firmly, “Nobody will use us to negotiate for anything.” Wike acknowledged the mixed emotions surrounding the party’s current challenges, expressing both satisfaction that justice had been served and sadness over the internal destruction of the party.

Wike criticized certain leaders within the PDP for their arrogance and insensitivity, arguing that such behavior undermines the unity necessary for a credible opposition. He condemned the notion that political power can be purchased, insisting that integrity and commitment to the party’s principles are paramount.

Expressing gratitude to PDP members who challenged the planned convention legally, Wike praised their courage in the face of intimidation. He accused some party leaders of violating the PDP constitution by improperly zoning positions and manipulating internal processes.

While reaffirming his commitment to party unity, Wike urged governors to invest state resources in development rather than in actions that weaken the PDP. He concluded by reiterating his group’s openness to genuine dialogue, while firmly stating they would not be coerced into submission.

A communiqué is expected to be released following the closed-door discussions with various PDP stakeholders from across the country.
