Key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who support Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike have outlined their conditions for the upcoming national convention. They insist that the zoning arrangements established during the 2021 convention must be maintained, with the party’s National Chairman remaining from the North-Central region.
During a meeting in Abuja, the PDP leaders, known as the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders, called for a fresh South-East Zonal Congress and new congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, as well as a Local Government congress in Ekiti State. They also demanded respect for the outcomes of the recently held South-South Congress in Calabar, which has been recognized by the court.
The communique, read by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, emphasized that any failure to comply with these demands would invalidate the national convention, disenfranchising legitimate party members.
The meeting included prominent figures such as Wike, PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and several former governors. They reaffirmed their commitment to principles of equity, justice, inclusivity, and adherence to the rule of law as essential for the party’s future relevance.
The leaders conveyed that the party must ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming convention, and they remain dedicated to working together to promote unity and justice within the PDP.
