Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating he has no regrets about backing him during last year’s presidential election. Wike emphasized that Tinubu’s administration has significantly favored the people of Rivers State by providing a high number of political appointments.
Speaking at an event in Ochigba, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, Wike noted that Tinubu has shown affection for Rivers State through his influence and the appointments made within his government.
Addressing criticisms regarding his role as FCT minister, Wike stated, “Some people are saying, what have I done for the state since I became the Minister of FCT? This set of people have forgotten that as a minister of the FCT, my focus is on FCT and not the state.” He emphasized that he has played a crucial role in securing federal appointments for individuals from Rivers State, asserting that the state holds the highest number of political appointees in the current administration.
Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support and acknowledged that his own appointment as minister was made possible by his commitment to Tinubu during the election. “Mr. President has done well for our people, and we will remain grateful to him. We will continue to support his administration to succeed,” he stated.
The former governor of Rivers State, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighted that his support for Tinubu was pivotal despite the internal crises within his party regarding the presidential ticket.
