Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s absence amid deepening economic hardship, insecurity, and perceived leadership silence in Nigeria.
Obi highlighted that Nigeria faces approximately 140 million people living in extreme poverty, widespread hunger, mass youth unemployment, and high infant mortality rates. He questioned the President’s visibility and engagement during these crises, noting that Nigerians had not heard directly from Tinubu since December 2025.
Obi alleged that the President spent 196 days outside the country in 2025, including a holiday in Europe during the New Year, and criticised the reliance on foreign media and presidential aides for information on national developments.
He stressed that leadership requires direct communication and engagement with citizens, warning that prolonged silence during crises undermines national unity and constitutes a failure of governance.
