The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked claims about a circulating image purported to show a newly introduced ₦5,000 banknote.
The image, which has gone viral on social media, was shared by users alleging that it is a sample of a ₦5,000 note featuring President Bola Tinubu.
The claim sparked a wave of reactions online, with many users debating the authenticity of the supposed new currency design.
However, the apex bank dismissed the report in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“This content is fake. The public should disregard it.”
It will be recalled that in 2025, the CBN also refuted claims that it had introduced ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes to ease cash transactions, describing those reports as false.
