Former presidential adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his position, asserting that stepping down may be in Nigeria’s best interest. Speaking on Arise TV’s Daybreak program, Baba-Ahmed remarked that Tinubu’s two and a half years in office have not reflected the promises or achievements attributed to him.
He pointed out a significant disconnect between government reports and the actual experiences of citizens faced with increasing poverty, hardship, and insecurity. “There’s a wide discrepancy between what he says he’s doing and what people say they are living,” he stated.
Baba-Ahmed particularly criticized Tinubu’s approach to security, claiming that the situation has not improved since President Buhari’s tenure and appears to have deteriorated further. He suggested that factors such as Tinubu’s age, the fulfillment of his lifelong ambition to become president, and a perceived lack of further value to offer should prompt the President to consider stepping aside.
“If President Tinubu loves the survival of Nigeria, I think he should call it quits,” Baba-Ahmed declared. He encouraged Nigerians to seek a better candidate in 2027, whether from within or outside Tinubu’s party, who can bring more desirable qualities to leadership.
