Troops from the 3 Division/Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) apprehended a suspected militia during a night patrol along the Kafi Abu-Rakwok Road in the Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, on July 6, 2025.
According to Major Samson Zhakom, the Media and Information Officer for OPSH, the suspect was caught in an ambush position, indicating potential intent to attack unsuspecting commuters. The operation led to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
The suspect, along with the recovered weapons, is currently in custody as investigations continue. Major Zhakom emphasized the ongoing efforts to track down other members of the militia group and urged the public to provide actionable information to enhance security in the area.
OPSH remains committed to combating unauthorized firearm usage that threatens the safety of the region.
