The Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). In a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, the apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to pronounce Abure as National Chairman, noting that leadership issues are internal matters of the party which courts cannot adjudicate.

The court’s ruling followed an appeal filed by Senator Ester Nenadi Usman and another party member, which was deemed meritorious. It also dismissed a cross-appeal from Abure’s faction as unmeritorious.

This decision effectively nullifies Abure’s tenure, which the court found had already expired, and reinforces the Supreme Court’s stance on the limits of judicial intervention in party leadership disputes.
