Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The defected lawmakers include Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi, and Felix Nwaeke.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read their letters of defection, citing “divisions and unresolved political crisis in the PDP.” The lawmakers expressed that the ongoing crisis within the PDP has hindered their ability to pursue political aspirations, and they pledged their alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
With this defection, the PDP’s representation in the Rivers State caucus has decreased from 12 members to only two. Last week, the party also lost three members to the APC: Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead. The remaining PDP lawmakers in Rivers State are the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu.
