Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently presiding over a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The NEC, which consists of the Vice President and State Governors, convenes at intervals to discuss pressing national issues and provide recommendations to the President.

The last meeting took place on February 20, during which the Nutrition 774 Initiative was launched to combat malnutrition across Nigeria. Today’s agenda is expected to focus on the increasing insecurity in several regions, particularly in Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and Kwara States.

While most state governors have agreed on the need for establishing state police, final agreements are still in progress. Attendees of the meeting include Governors Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (Kwara), Ibas Eke Ekwe (Rivers), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Alex Otti (Abia), among others.
