The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that he promised to deliver the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to President Bola Tinubu in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. His comments came in response to allegations made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who suggested that Wike was contributing to the current PDP crisis, marked by defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike clarified his position, asserting he never made such a commitment during a meeting with Tinubu. Makinde previously expressed regret about supporting Tinubu in the 2023 election and claimed that Wike had volunteered to “hold PDP” for Tinubu.

Wike stated, “I will not be blamed for anyone’s frustration. There was no such meeting where I made that promise.” He questioned why Makinde had not addressed these concerns within the party sooner and characterized the allegation as unfair.

Wike described Makinde as frustrated and emphasized that while ambition is valid, it must adhere to political principles. He also remarked that aspiring for presidential candidacy requires a level of candor, which he feels Makinde lacks.
