Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, claiming he has retaliated against her for rejecting his advances. During an appearance on ARISE TV, she detailed her experiences and the fallout from her interactions with Akpabio.

The controversy escalated after Akpoti discovered her Senate seat had been changed without her consent, leading to a heated confrontation and her subsequent referral to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for potential disciplinary measures.

In her interview, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that she has proof of her claims, including WhatsApp messages exchanged with Akpabio. She also mentioned that her husband could serve as a witness to the incidents. Recalling a visit to Akpabio’s home on December 8, 2023, she alleged that he suggested she could spend “special moments” at his residence.

The senator expressed her frustration over her motion concerning the Ajaokuta Steel Company, which she claimed was consistently overlooked by Akpabio. She alleged that he hinted she could benefit politically by being more compliant.

In response to the situation, Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a N100.3 billion lawsuit against Akpabio for violations of her fundamental human rights. Akpabio’s media representative has yet to comment on the allegations.

The unfolding drama highlights serious concerns about the behavior of public officials and the challenges women face in the political arena, as Akpoti-Uduaghan seeks to shed light on her claims.
