The House of Representatives has issued an apology to Nigerians, particularly to parents and candidates of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), following a technical error that impacted more than 300,000 participants.

At a news conference in Abuja, Rep. Oboku Oforji, Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, expressed regret on behalf of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The glitch affected 379,997 candidates, primarily from Lagos and the South-East zone.

Oforji urged the public to forgive JAMB for what he termed human error. He commended JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede for taking responsibility and apologizing on behalf of the organization. However, he noted that the errors were avoidable and resulted from negligence.

The committee emphasized the importance of investigating the incident independently to prevent future occurrences. Oforji also highlighted the necessity of maintaining JAMB’s reputation and the integrity of Nigeria’s educational system, stating that the nation cannot afford another scandal in its education sector.
