The Presidency has called upon Nigerians to actively assist in monitoring compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police escorts for Very Important Persons (VIPs). This appeal was articulated by Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, during an interview on TVC.
Bwala urged citizens to document any instances where celebrities, private sector individuals, or others are found to be violating this executive order by still employing police escorts. “Capture evidence, whether a photograph or video,” he stated.
He clarified that the directive does not apply universally to all government officials; some critical figures will retain security, but it will not come from the police. Other agencies such as the State Security Service (SSS) and Civil Defence may provide necessary protection.
The directive is part of an ongoing effort by the administration to rationalize police resources, ensuring that officers focus more on public safety rather than VIP protection. President Tinubu has mandated the redeployment of police officers currently assigned to VIPs to core policing duties.
