The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has emphasized that prosecuting individuals accused of financing terrorism involves more than just having a list of names. Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Idris explained that the government has not yet taken legal action against suspected financiers due to the necessity of thorough investigations.

Idris stated, “It is not as simplistic as just having the list. Investigations must be conducted, and in some cases, there are valid points made by the accused.” He noted the complexity of these cases, highlighting that rushing them into court without adequate evidence is not a viable approach.

The minister called for understanding from both national and international partners regarding the complications faced in tackling this issue. He assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to addressing insecurity, noting significant progress since May 2023.

According to Idris, over 13,500 criminals, including bandits and jihadists, have been neutralized, and more than 17,000 have been apprehended since the administration took office. He urged recognition of these efforts while stressing the importance of a careful and deliberate legal process in handling terrorism financing cases.
