The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) is yet to declare results of the primary elections held across the 17 local government areas of the state, on Thursday.
GTN reports that delegates of political parties participating in the election elected candidates for the main election and the exercise was supervised by PLASIEC.
Confirming the delay, the commission said the results would be announced as soon as they are ready.
Media officer of PLASIEC, Koro Yakubu, in a statement said results were still being collated from the 17 local governments.“There is no course for alarm, at the end of all primaries, PLASIEC will upload results from participating political parties for public view and access.
‘It should be noted that PLASIEC is still receiving results of the recently concluded primaries of different political parties”
“The unauthorized use of our logo to circulate fake results and cause confusion, undermine our credibility, and compromise the integrity of the electoral process. For the purpose of emphasis, the Electoral Umpire remains the sole authority responsible for announcing official election results and not political parties or individuals.
“To this end, the Commission warns against further circulation of the document carrying the PLASIEC logo and advises the public to disregard it, as it is not an official document from the Electoral Umpire.
“PLASIEC calls on plateau citizens to close ranks and work together in order to protect our democracy and ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.”
