The nationwide scarcity of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, has led to the emergence of illicit vendors who provide the commodity at up to N1,200 per litre in certain areas.
GTN’s nationwide findings revealed that while there were long lines at the stations dispensing the goods, several filling stations remained closed.
This is taking place in spite of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) declaration that it has resolved the issues that led to the most recent round of product shortages.
GTN investigated the situation and observed that several petrol stations in multiple states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have raised their rates, with petrol now costing between N750 and N800 Per liter.
NNPCL petrol stations, on the other hand, were dispensing at N617 per litre despite longer queues.
Drivers were observed to be stranded, and some locals resorted to hiking considerable distances via different regions of the nation that our reporters investigated.
