Former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his efforts in preventing the state from being dominated by a single individual. During a Christmas Ballad hosted at his residence in Port Harcourt, Odili expressed appreciation for Fubara’s leadership and the positive impact it has had on the people of Rivers State.
In his welcome address, Odili noted that since October 25, 2023, when significant political challenges arose against Fubara, the governor has faced these issues with resilience. He emphasized that Fubara has successfully countered attempts to treat the state as a personal estate, thus freeing the people from undue oppression.
Odili’s remarks, relayed by Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, suggested a critique of former Governor Nyesom Wike, who had previously supported Fubara’s rise to power but later expressed regret and intentions to unseat him in 2027.
Justice Mary Odili, who also spoke at the event, presented gifts to Fubara and his family, highlighting the governor’s role as a necessary leader for the state’s emancipation.
In response, Governor Fubara reflected on the political struggles, stating that these experiences have provided him with new insights into leadership. He credited his strength to the unwavering support from the people of Rivers State, asserting that their encouragement motivates him to continue working for their benefit.
Fubara concluded by expressing his belief in divine support, stating that with God on their side, victory for the people of Rivers is assured.
