The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to 11 notable members, including former governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose, as part of a strategy to reorganize the party in preparation for the 2027 elections. This announcement was made at a briefing following a meeting of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) Monitored by Governance Today in Abuja.

National Chairman Kabiru Turaki confirmed that the expulsion certificates have been dispatched and emphasized the party’s commitment to enforce internal discipline and address prolonged internal conflicts. The decision serves to notify key institutions, including INEC and security agencies, that the expelled members are no longer affiliated with the PDP.

The expelled members also include Senator Samuel Anyanwu and others, with Turaki highlighting that interactions with these individuals in official party matters would be at the risk of the members of the public.

In other news related to party operations, Turaki assured that the Osun State governorship primary is proceeding as planned and confirmed that Senator Ademola Adeleke remains on the ballot as an aspirant. He also addressed the need for a reevaluation of Nigeria’s security environment under the current administration, criticizing the existing state of safety across the nation.

Additionally, the PDP urged President Bola Tinubu to uphold democratic principles domestically, paralleling his recent actions to champion democracy abroad, particularly in Guinea-Bissau. The party expressed that credible defense of democracy must also prioritize the strengthening of democratic practices within Nigeria. The statement reflects the PDP’s intent to position itself as a viable opposition in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of internal cohesion and a commitment to democratic values.
