The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akoko-Edo Local Government has voiced its concern regarding the invasion of the council secretariat in Igarra on December 27, 2024, by individuals identified as suspected APC thugs.
In a statement from Secretary Dennis Akande, the PDP labeled the incident as a serious breach of the law. Akande reported that a large contingent of thugs stormed the secretariat, forcing employees to evacuate and halting operations for the council chairman, Hon. Barr Tajudeen Alade Suleman, who was away in Benin City for official duties.
“They forcibly entered the Chairman’s office after damaging two access doors, ransacked the office, and made off with official documents and valuables, subsequently locking the door with a key they retained,” Akande explained.
PDP Chairman Hon. Kayode Ogunnubi condemned the violent act as entirely contrary to the Nigerian constitution and described it as crude and barbaric. He urged APC leadership to control their supporters and pointed out that security agencies are already aware of the perpetrators’ identities, calling for their prosecution to uphold the law. He emphasized that the council chairman’s office is a public entity, not a party office.
The statement concluded by urging PDP members to stay composed in the face of this provocation and to allow security agencies to carry out their investigations effectively.
