The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that the upcoming 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will take place as scheduled on June 30, 2025.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT rejected Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s return as national secretary, maintaining that Arc. Setonji Koshoedo continues as the Acting National Secretary. The Board described Anyanwu’s reinstatement and the cancellation of the NEC meeting by acting national chairman Amb. Illiya Damagum as unconstitutional.
The BoT emphasized that decisions regarding the NEC meeting were made during the 99th NEC meeting and must be upheld. They stated that Damagum does not have the authority to override these collective decisions, which is a violation of the PDP Constitution.
Tensions within the National Working Committee (NWC) have escalated following Damagum’s announcements, leading to a divide among members. The BoT intervened, declaring that the NEC meeting will proceed as planned and urging all party members to adhere to the party’s constitutional framework.
The BoT reiterated its commitment to upholding due process and the democratic principles of the PDP, asserting that no individual interest supersedes the party’s integrity.
