In Osun State, tensions have escalated as the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, has filed a petition against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others, alleging that they are recruiting armed thugs to disrupt local government functions. The petition, submitted to the state police command and the Department of State Services (DSS), names several individuals, including the PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, and others involved in the alleged plot.

Lawal’s letter, dated June 16, 2025, claims that the PDP’s actions threaten the safety of political functionaries in local government secretariats. He recalled previous incidents of violence, including the murder of a local government chairman, and urged security agencies to investigate these threats.

In response, PDP spokesperson Oladele Bamiji dismissed the allegations, accusing the APC of trying to provoke violence to justify a call for emergency rule in the state. He insisted that the PDP is committed to peace and has instructed its members to avoid confrontation.

Amid rising tensions, there was an increased security presence at local government secretariats in Osun, particularly following a recent court ruling that has heightened political rivalries. Local leaders from both parties are on edge as the situation develops.

The APC’s call for security measures reflects its concerns about potential violence and the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing political disputes in the state.
