The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that only President Bola Tinubu has the authority to remove him from office, dismissing calls by critics demanding his sack.

Wike spoke during a thank-you visit to Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he met with party leaders, traditional rulers, women, and youths. He emphasised that political power is acquired through strategy and strength, not sentiment.

According to him, Obio/Akpor remains a decisive political force in Rivers State, noting that no governor or senator from Rivers East has emerged without the backing of the local government.

“There is no sentiment or emotion in politics. Politics is about interests. Power is not given; it is taken through struggle,” Wike said. “People sitting outside and making noise should ask themselves if areas with few votes can challenge places that produce a significant percentage of the total votes.”

He warned that political actors who undermine Obio/Akpor should not expect electoral support in the future, stressing that the area has consistently shaped electoral outcomes in the state.

Reacting to calls for his removal as FCT minister, Wike said such decisions are solely the prerogative of the President.
“If my appointor believes I no longer have value to add, he has the right to remove me. No other person has that authority,” he said, adding that he remains proud of his service and performance in office.

Earlier, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Gift Worlu, praised Wike’s political influence and leadership, describing him as a major asset to Rivers State and Nigeria. He assured him of the council’s continued loyalty and support.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, reaffirmed the Assembly’s support for Wike and President Tinubu, urging him to ignore detractors and remain focused on supporting the administration’s agenda.

The visit comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State following renewed impeachment proceedings initiated by the State House of Assembly against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct.

The development marks another escalation in the ongoing political crisis in the state linked to the fallout between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike.
