The Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations (JACON) has rejected the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, describing the move as unfair and a betrayal of the North’s political support base.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna on Tuesday, the group condemned the zoning arrangement as “undemocratic” and warned that it could have dire consequences for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections.
JACON accused the party leadership of sidelining the North despite its decades of loyalty to the PDP, insisting that the decision amounted to political marginalization.
The group, however, did not disclose whether it planned to mobilize against the party’s decision or seek alignment with other political blocs ahead of the polls.
