A political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, has stated that individuals over the age of 70 should not contest for either the presidency or governorship in Nigeria. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he emphasized the need for younger leadership in executive positions.
Utomi asserted that while some older individuals may serve in legislative roles until the age of 75 or even close to 80, the presidency should not be a position for those who require significant medical attention. He highlighted that such a situation burdens the Nigerian taxpayer, who deserves quality service from their leaders.
Utomi’s comments reflect his broader concerns about the capabilities and responsibilities of Nigeria’s political class, advocating for a future where the needs of the populace take precedence over the ambitions of aging politicians.
