Members of a faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have publicly rejected Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party’s head, burning the Kwankwasiya group’s trademark red cap.

Dr. Gilbert Agbo, the party’s factional National Chairman, led the anti-Kwankwasiya campaign at the party’s secretariat in Minna, Niger State, accusing the former Kano State governor and his Kwankwasiya group of threatening the party’s progress and existence.

Speaking during the faction’s North-Central Zonal meeting in Minna, Agbo declared that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee in Lagos had automatically terminated his membership and stake in the party.

Agbo, who also coordinated the burning of the group’s signature red caps, insisted that the action represented a clear break from Kwankwaso’s leadership.

He also stated that Kano State Governor Kabir Yusuf was scheduled to go before the party’s disciplinary committee for allegedly failing to uphold the party’s ideals and supremacy.

Mallam Danladi Abdulhamid, leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Niger State, reacted to the development by describing Agbo’s national leadership of the party as unlawful.

Abdulhamid stated that the move by the faction was meant to serve Agbo’s personal interests rather than the interests of the people.

He insisted that Kwankwaso remained the national leader of the party under Dr. Ahmed Ajuji’s leadership as chairman.
