February 7, 2025 – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has stated that there was no explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), countering recent rumors.

NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, reported that the refinery is currently loading eight trucks of diesel and kerosene daily. He explained that operations were intentionally reduced on January 25 to facilitate essential maintenance on specific equipment.

Soneye affirmed, “NNPC Ltd wishes to clarify that there was no explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company. Any allegations to the contrary are entirely false.” He emphasized that these maintenance activities are vital for producing high-quality finished products, particularly Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and kerosene.

Despite the ongoing maintenance, Soneye confirmed that loading operations have continued without interruption. “In the past 11 days, AGO loading has averaged eight trucks per day, with ample supply to support ongoing operations,” he noted.

He assured stakeholders that the maintenance is on track and that Area 1 of the refinery is expected to resume full operations soon. The NNPC remains dedicated to ensuring a reliable product supply and appreciates the understanding of all stakeholders during this maintenance period.

In December, the NNPC announced the revival of the Warri refinery, which has begun producing diesel and kerosene, though petrol production has not yet started.
