The Niger State Government has announced the reopening of selected public and private schools across the state, effective Monday, January 12, 2026. This decision follows thorough security assessments and consultations with relevant security agencies.

A statement from the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, signed by Commissioner Hadiza Mohammed, confirmed that Governor Umaru Bago approved the reopening to ensure the continuity of education while prioritizing the safety of students, teachers, and school communities.

Only schools located in secure areas will resume academic activities. Adequate security personnel will be deployed in and around school premises in collaboration with law enforcement agencies to guarantee a safe learning environment.

The Ministry will release the official list of schools cleared for reopening on January 12. Schools approved to resume are required to register all returning students immediately and submit comprehensive enrollment data to the Ministry within one week. Local Government Area Chairmen have been directed to ensure compliance and provide necessary support.

The government expressed gratitude to parents, school managers, and the public for their patience and cooperation during the closure, emphasizing that the safety of students and teachers remains the top priority.

All stakeholders have been urged to strictly adhere to the directives to maintain peace, security, and sustainable educational development in Niger State.
