The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a series of airstrikes on Boko Haram strongholds in Borno State, killing several terrorists and crippling their logistics operations ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement released on Saturday, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Ehimen Ejodame, said the strikes were carried out under Operation Hadin Kai on June 5 and 6. The targeted locations included Tumbumma Baba and Chiralia in the Southern Tumbuns area of the state.
“Acting on credible intelligence, NAF aircraft engaged and destroyed structures used by the insurgents for weapons storage and operational planning,” Ejodame revealed. “Battle Damage Assessments confirmed direct hits and the neutralisation of several terrorists.”
The Air Force said the pre-emptive operation was designed to prevent potential attacks aimed at disrupting the Muslim holiday.
“These airstrikes demonstrate NAF’s commitment to civilian protection and national security,” the statement added.
The operation marks another chapter in Nigeria’s prolonged counter-insurgency campaign in the Northeast, where Boko Haram and its ISWAP offshoots continue to operate despite sustained military pressure.
