Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has assured that Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima, the naval officer involved in a heated exchange with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, will not face disciplinary action. This statement follows public speculation about potential sanctions against the officer after a video of the confrontation went viral.

Matawalle, speaking in an interview with DCL Hausa, said the incident should have been handled through proper channels rather than a public altercation. The clash occurred at a disputed land in Gaduwa District, Abuja, where Yerima was stationed, reportedly acting on orders from retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo.

Matawalle commended Yerima’s composure during the encounter, describing his conduct as disciplined and professional. He stated that the officer acted strictly in accordance with instructions, adding that there was no basis for disciplinary action under military law.

He also noted that Wike had contacted both the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, who advised him to allow the military to investigate the matter before taking any action. Matawalle emphasized that respecting uniformed personnel is crucial and that disrespecting them indirectly undermines the authority of the President.
